How Toastmasters Work
The Toastmasters system offers a proven and enjoyable way to practice communication and leadership skills. The newly launched Pathways Learning Experience now offers a series of self-paced speaking projects in an online education program designed to help you build the unique competencies you need to communicate and lead.
Why is it important to put your knowledge into practice at the meetings? Knowledge is useless until you put it into consistent action and practice. In the book Outliers, author Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of practice to achieve mastery in a field!
Our weekly meetings offers ample opportunities to practice in a learn-by-doing workshop where participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings, serve as officers in various leadership roles and learn rules related to timing and grammar. “I’m grateful to have been part of Vancore Toastmasters, if even for a short time. The group support, expertise and warmth was much appreciated!”
